Le Clos du Caillou

France

Le Clos du Caillou is a family-owned estate in Courthézon in the Rhône Valley, working in both Côtes-du-Rhône and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Owned by the Pouzin-Vacheron family since the 1950s, the domaine is now led by Sylvie Vacheron, with the fourth generation also involved, while Bruno Gaspard oversees winemaking. The vineyards have been certified organic since 2010, with organic winemaking since 2012, and the estate is progressively moving toward biodynamic farming. Work in the vines relies on copper, sulfur, plant-based preparations, under-vine cultivation and cover crops. On sandy, quartz-rich and safres soils, the domaine focuses on elegant, refined wines that express the character of these terroirs, with natural methods including indigenous yeasts and aging in an underground cellar dug into the safre.
