LaSelva is a family-owned estate in Maremma, southern Tuscany, founded by Karl Egger in 1980 and recognised as a pioneer of large-scale organic farming. Its vineyards are certified organic and farmed with ecological methods, including extensive manual work, crop rotation and attention to soil vitality; biodynamic and fair-trade practices are also reported. The estate favours traditional and native varieties such as Vermentino, Ciliegiolo, Sangiovese, Malvasia Nera and Pugnitello, seeking authentic wines that express Maremma’s clay- and limestone-rich soils. In the cellar, wines are made without unnecessary additives, combining traditional care with temperature-controlled fermentation and gentle extraction. The partially underground winery is integrated into the landscape and uses photovoltaic energy, while the broader estate also produces other organic agricultural products.
