Weingut Josef Spreitzer is a family-run estate in Oestrich, at the heart of Germany’s Rheingau, with roots dating to 1641. Brothers Andreas and Bernd Spreitzer have led the winery since 1997 and remain closely involved in the vineyards, cellar and sales. A VDP member since 1999, the estate focuses on terroir-driven wines, predominantly Riesling with a small proportion of Spätburgunder. Naturnah farming includes cover crops, selective hand-harvesting, yield reduction and efforts to reduce its carbon footprint through photovoltaics and geothermal energy. Late harvesting, whole-cluster pressing and fermentation in large German oak or stainless steel allow the wines to develop their characteristic balance between lightness and concentration—filigree, elegant and finely textured, yet dense and long.
