Elvio Cogno

Italy

Elvio Cogno is a family-owned estate in Novello, in Piedmont’s Langhe, founded by Elvio Cogno and now run by Nadia Cogno and her husband, winemaker Valter Fissore. The winery is deeply identified with the Ravera cru, where calcareous-clay soils and south to southeast exposures shape Barolos noted for elegance, structure, freshness, and longevity. Its approach is firmly traditional: long fermentations, restrained extraction, large oak casks for Barolo, and no small barriques. At the same time, the family places strong emphasis on understanding terroir and careful vineyard work without forcing nature. Cogno has also begun conversion to organic farming, with attention to biodiversity and reducing synthetic inputs. A distinctive pre-phylloxera Barbera d’Alba further reflects the estate’s focus on heritage and site expression.
