Donna Olimpia 1898 is a Bolgheri estate in Tuscany, near the sea and the historic village of Bolgheri, in the Castagneto Carducci area of the Maremma. Its name honors Olimpia Alliata, who gave the estate its name in 1898. The current wine project was developed from 2001 by Guido Folonari, heir to a historic Italian wine family, with a focus on excellence, typicity and respect for the land’s rhythms. Vineyard plantings were studied in collaboration with Prof. Scienza of the University of Milan, focusing on varieties well suited to Bolgheri, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Vermentino, Viognier and Petit Manseng. The modern winery was designed for energy savings and minimal environmental impact, with advanced cellar technology and French oak barrique aging.
