Cellers Joan d'Anguera is a seventh-generation family estate founded in 1820 in Darmós, in Catalonia’s D.O. Montsant. Since taking over in 2000, brothers Josep Anguera, an agronomist, and Joan Anguera Pons, an oenologist, have reshaped the estate around old-vine Garnacha and Cariñena, with a focus on recovering native varieties and expressing Montsant’s terroir. Their vineyards are dry farmed on calcareous, sandy and alluvial soils, and were converted to organic and biodynamic farming from 2008, gaining organic and Demeter certification in 2012. In the cellar they use native yeasts, concrete vats, old French barriques, and bottle the wines unfined and unfiltered.
