Ontario wine country is shaped by the Great Lakes, with fresh Chardonnay and Riesling, expressive Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc, and naturally sweet Icewine. Niagara Peninsula offers a varied landscape of lake plains and escarpment vineyards, while Lake Erie North Shore explores the province’s warmer southwestern edge. Prince Edward County brings limestone-rich soils and a demanding cool-climate setting; South Islands adds a distinct Pelee Island origin within Lake Erie North Shore. Beyond those named appellations, emerging vineyards around Norfolk, Georgian Bay, Lake Huron and eastern Ontario reveal smaller-estate discoveries and cold-hardy grapes. Explore the stated grape origin as well as the winery: a local cellar may make wines from several areas. For certified wines, the VQA wording helps identify origin, and the grape and sweetness description guide the style.
