Steiermark wines reveal Austria’s green, hilly south through fragrant whites and vivid Schilcher rosé. Sauvignon Blanc is a natural starting point in Südsteiermark; Morillon is the local name for Chardonnay, and Gelber Muskateller adds a beautifully aromatic alternative. Vulkanland Steiermark, formerly called Südoststeiermark, brings another varied landscape of volcanic and sedimentary soils. In Weststeiermark, discover Schilcher made from Blauer Wildbacher. Village names and individual vineyards offer a closer view within these three DAC origins. Compare grape, origin and sweetness, especially for Klöch’s Traminer, whose range goes beyond dry wine.
