Alentejo wine country reveals a broad southern Portuguese landscape with striking local contrasts. Portalegre’s uplands around the Serra de São Mamede differ from the warmer plains and hills further south. Borba, Évora, Redondo, Reguengos, Vidigueira, Granja-Amareleja and Moura each add their own vineyard story within Alentejo PDO. Aragonez, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet and Castelão offer red-wine routes, while Antão Vaz, Arinto and Roupeiro introduce the whites. Moreto in Granja-Amareleja and Grand Noir around Portalegre bring further local character. Clay-vessel talha wines add another tradition without defining every Alentejo bottle. Distinguish Alentejo PDO from the wider Alentejano PGI, then follow subregion, grape and producer to explore the wine’s particular place.
