About Penedès

Penedès wine country lies west and southwest of Barcelona, where Mediterranean light meets limestone hills, inland vineyards and the coastal landscapes of Garraf. Xarel·lo is an essential discovery, appearing in textured still whites as well as traditional-method sparkling wines alongside Macabeu and Parellada. Vilafranca del Penedès and Sant Sadurní d’Anoia offer two gateways to the region’s wine culture, while Baix Penedès and Sitges introduce further local stories, including Malvasia de Sitges. Read sparkling labels closely: Cava DO, Corpinnat and Clàssic Penedès have different identities and requirements. Cava also comes from other Spanish regions. Penedès DO’s organic commitment applies from the 2025 harvest, giving a clear date to an important change in the appellation’s still and sparkling wine story.
