Rust brings historic lakeside wine culture together with Ruster Ausbruch, one of Austria’s distinctive noble-sweet white wines.
Chardonnay is one permitted white grape; Ruster Ausbruch can use other authorised white varieties.
Dried apricot, citrus peel and honeyed notes with intense sweetness and balancing acidity.
Rust is a wine town with several wine expressions, while Ruster Ausbruch DAC is a specific protected sweet-wine identity. Botrytis-selected white grapes and the defined Rust origin distinguish that category. Dry wines from local growers may carry Leithaberg DAC when they meet its rules, or broader Burgenland labels. The town and the sweet appellation therefore should not be treated as interchangeable. A sweet Chardonnay provides one documented way into the Ausbruch tradition.
