Rheinhessen wines explore the Rhine’s western bank and the rolling hills between Mainz, Bingen, Worms and Alzey. Riesling provides a vivid introduction, with Rhine-side sites around Nierstein, Nackenheim and Oppenheim offering a different landscape from the limestone and marl vineyards of the southern Wonnegau. Silvaner, Scheurebe and Pinot-family whites add other routes through Germany’s largest wine-growing region, alongside a red-wine tradition. Explore Westhofen and Bechtheim for inland vineyard stories or Alzey for Georg Scheu’s aromatic grape legacy. Village and site names identify origin; VDP terms describe a growers’ classification within the region. Grosses Gewächs is dry under that system, while other Riesling and aromatic-white labels need a separate sweetness clue.
