Baião is a Vinho Verde subregion, even though the Douro River helps orient its landscape. Avesso is a particularly useful starting point for whites with fruit, body and freshness. Arinto, Azal and other permitted grapes add variety. Do not confuse the Baião subregion with Douro DOC; the full denomination identifies the wine’s actual protected origin.
