Lafões is a protected wine origin distinct from Dão DOC, although both are overseen by the Dão regional commission. Atlantic influence and the Vouga valley landscape are useful geographical clues. Arinto and other local white varieties offer a good introduction. Do not confuse the DOC with Terras de Lafões, a complementary subregional indication within Terras do Dão PGI.
