About Clairette du Languedoc

Dry Clairette

White

Apple, pear and delicate herbs in a rounded white wine.

Sweet and rancio Clairette

White

Ripe orchard fruit and sweetness; aged rancio expressions develop dried fruit and nutty notes.

Where it grows: On terraces and hills along the right bank of the Hérault, north of Pézenas.
Grapes: Clairette.

This white-only appellation uses Clairette. Producers make dry and sweeter expressions, with an older rancio tradition adding nutty depth; check the bottle for the style rather than assuming it is sparkling.
