Pinot Noir.
Cherry and red berries with savoury detail, freshness and fine tannins.
Pinot Gris.
Pear, apple and citrus with a fresh palate and gentle breadth.
Kootenays is a protected GI with varied local growing conditions rather than one uniform mountain climate. Vineyards occupy suitable lower sites within the wider landscape. Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay provide useful entry points, with other varieties adding to the exploratory character of the region. Read a named valley or vineyard alongside the broad GI to make the origin more specific. A winery’s wider portfolio need not all come from Kootenays grapes.
