Basque Country wines invite you to explore txakoli through three distinct origins: Getariako Txakolina in Gipuzkoa, Bizkaiko Txakolina in Bizkaia and Arabako Txakolina in northern Álava. Hondarrabi Zuri is a useful starting point for fresh whites, while Hondarrabi Beltza and other permitted grapes bring further possibilities. Coastal and inland settings, lees ageing and the producer’s approach create more variety than a single light, spritzy style suggests. Txakoli can include rosé and red wines, and a gentle spritz does not automatically mean sparkling wine.
