Valle Peligna is a historical IGT name that leads inland to the vineyards of the Sulmona basin and Abruzzo’s mountain landscape.
Valle Peligna IGT was revoked from the 2010/11 wine year. It remains useful for understanding older labels from a valley surrounded by Apennine mountains. Today the related name Terre dei Peligni appears within the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC subzone system, under different rules. The historical IGT and the DOC subzone are therefore distinct designations. Vintage and the full origin statement help place a bottle in the right chapter of this inland wine story.
