Controguerra combines northern Abruzzo’s Montepulciano tradition with an unusually varied range of white, red and sparkling wines.
Montepulciano.
Dark cherry and plum with savoury spice, a dry palate and firm tannins.
Citrus, white flowers and peach with a fresh, easy-flowing palate.
Pear, lemon and herbs with a fuller texture and a lively finish.
Controguerra DOC offers more variety than its compact geography might suggest. Montepulciano leads the principal reds and rosato, while white wines include Trebbiano-led blends and named varieties such as Passerina and Pecorino. Cabernet and Merlot provide further red-wine routes, and traditional-method sparkling wine and passito belong to distinct categories. Choose the named grape or type first: the appellation is a shared origin for several different experiences.
