Achaia opens a broader wine landscape beyond its famous PDOs, with local grapes and inventive dry expressions.
A dry red expression with dark fruit, herbal detail and structure, distinct from the sweet fortified Patras PDO.
PGI Achaia gives growers a broader range of grapes and styles than the area’s individual PDOs. Dry Mavrodaphne offers a different experience from sweet fortified Mavrodaphne of Patras, while Roditis, Sideritis and other local varieties add white-wine discoveries. The district is not uniformly coastal or low lying. Compare the specific designation and grape rather than assuming a winery near Patras makes only traditional sweet wines.
