Imathia opens the wider vineyard landscape around Naoussa to red blends and other local discoveries.
Xinomavro, Merlot, Syrah.
Red and dark berries with savoury spice; the actual blend and tannic weight vary.
Imathia PGI is distinct from Naoussa PDO, although the two names are closely linked geographically. Naoussa focuses on dry Xinomavro reds; the wider PGI allows other grape and wine combinations. The distinction helps explain why an estate known for Naoussa may also make differently labelled bottles. Follow the complete designation and blend rather than the winery address alone.
