Castilla y León wine country spans the high inland plateaus of northwestern Spain, the Duero’s vineyard terraces and the greener hills of Bierzo. Its variety is the attraction: Verdejo brings Rueda’s fresh white wines, Tinta de Toro gives Toro its structured reds, and Mencía opens a different, fragrant route through Bierzo. Cigales has a lively rosado and clarete tradition; Arlanza offers high-country Tempranillo, while Arribes shelters Juan García and Bruñal near the Portuguese border. León introduces Prieto Picudo and Albarín Blanco, and Tierra del Vino de Zamora adds old-vine Tempranillo and mixed-grape traditions. Ribera del Duero is another important origin within this wider landscape, with its own guide. Explore each appellation separately: a shared regional setting does not mean identical grapes, climate or wine rules.
