Casteggio gives Barbera a focused Oltrepò Pavese identity, with structured dry reds from the hills around its namesake town.
Barbera leads; Croatina is one of several permitted supporting grapes.
Cherry, dark berries and spice with a dry palate, lively acidity and firm structure.
Casteggio DOC centres on a Barbera-led red blend, with other permitted local and international varieties supplying different supporting notes. It is a narrower identity than the broad Oltrepò Pavese DOC. Ageing and blend choices influence how the grape’s natural freshness meets the wine’s structure. Look for the full appellation and any riserva statement when exploring this less familiar corner of Lombardy’s red-wine country.
