Rosso Orvietano offers a red-wine counterpart to the better-known whites around Orvieto, with local and international grapes.
Cherry, plum and herbal notes with fresh acidity and a dry finish.
Plum, dark cherry and gentle herbs with a dry palate and rounded structure.
Rosso Orvietano, also named Orvietano Rosso, is a separate DOC rather than a red colour category of Orvieto DOC. Its framework allows blended reds and named grape expressions, including Sangiovese and Merlot. The producer’s blend therefore matters particularly here. Read the full protected name and grape statement to distinguish a local Sangiovese route from a different varietal or blend grown in the same wider landscape.
