About Bivongi DOC

Rosso, Riserva and Novello

Red

Gaglioppo and/or Greco Nero 30–50%; Nocera, Calabrese and/or Castiglione 30–50%, with other permitted grapes.

Rosato

Rosé

The same permitted grape composition as the red wines.

Bianco

White

Greco Bianco, Guardavalle and/or Montonico Bianco 30–50%; Malvasia Bianca and/or Ansonica 30–50%, with other permitted white grapes.

Where it grows: The Bivongi and Stilo area, across defined communes in Reggio Calabria and Guardavalle in Catanzaro.

Bivongi is a blended-wine DOC rather than a one-grape designation. Reds and rosés combine groups of local varieties, while whites have their own mix of permitted grapes. The hilly production area stretches beyond Bivongi itself. Compare the full wine type and producer’s blend, with Riserva or Novello identifying different red expressions rather than separate geographical origins.
