Cigales combines a celebrated rosado and clarete heritage with fresh whites and increasingly individual Tempranillo reds.
Tempranillo, Verdejo.
Red berries and citrus with a dry, lively palate; grape proportions vary by producer.
Red and dark fruit with savoury spice and a firm finish, gaining toasted detail when oak-aged.
Verdejo.
Citrus, herbs and orchard fruit with a refreshing, dry finish.
Cigales rosados grow out of a tradition of combining red and white varieties, rather than a rule that pink wine must be a single red grape. Tempranillo is important, with Verdejo and other approved varieties adding different possibilities. Younger rosados are refreshing introductions; oak-aged reds offer a firmer contrast. Clarete describes a local winemaking tradition, while the bottle’s appellation and style wording identify the particular wine.
