Grapes
Nerello Mascalese
Sicily’s earlier island-wide IGT label, a window into older vintages and broad grape choices.
Catarratto, Ansonica and Chardonnay.
Citrus and orchard-fruit foundations, with richer or more developed flavours in older vintages.
Nero d’Avola and Syrah.
Dark fruit and spice, from softer blends to more structured wines. Bottle age and storage shape mature examples.
Nero d’Avola.
Fresh red-fruit character in its youth; mature bottles can show more developed flavours.
Sicilia IGT is a historical designation, renamed Terre Siciliane IGT in 2011 as Sicilia DOC was introduced. The two present-day designations have their own rules; this guide helps place the earlier IGT labels.
