About Akhasheni

Where it grows

In Gurjaani municipality, on the right-bank side of the Alazani Valley.

Akhasheni is a protected origin for semi-sweet red wine made from Saperavi. Its retained sweetness distinguishes it from dry Saperavi appellations such as Mukuzani, even though the grape is shared. The sweetness comes from the wine’s production approach rather than a rule that every Kakhetian red is sweet. Dark fruit, freshness and tannin provide useful balancing elements. Read Akhasheni as a specific origin and wine type, then compare producers to explore differences in texture and fruit expression.
