About Kakheti

Where it grows

In eastern Georgia, across the Alazani and Iori vineyard landscapes, between the Greater Caucasus and the region’s southern uplands.

Kakheti names both a broad wine region and a registered protected wine origin, also called Kakhuri. The protected origin includes white, red, rosé and amber wines with different sweetness levels. Rkatsiteli, Mtsvane Kakhuri, Kisi and Khikhvi offer rewarding white-grape discoveries, while Saperavi leads the red-wine story. Qvevri are buried clay vessels used for several wine styles; amber colour comes from skin contact with white grapes. A smaller protected name or stated village can add useful detail to the broad regional identity.
