Tempranillo
Tempranillo, time in the cellar and a Rioja tradition that goes well beyond red wine.
Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo.
Cherry and plum can develop into tobacco, spice and leather with ageing. Young fruit-led bottles and mature oak-aged wines offer different pleasures.
Viura, Tempranillo Blanco and Malvasía Riojana.
Citrus, pear and floral notes in young wines; barrel-aged examples may bring toast, wax and savoury depth.
Garnacha and Tempranillo.
Red berries and refreshing acidity, with styles ranging from pale and delicate to deeper and more textured.
Viura and Chardonnay.
Traditional-method bubbles with citrus fruit and, with longer ageing, pastry-like depth. The label identifies the wine’s ageing tier.
Rioja includes Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental. Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva describe ageing; they do not identify a zone. White, rosé and traditional-method sparkling wines broaden the picture.
