Madiran is Tannat country, offering deeply coloured dry reds from the northern Pyrenean foothills.
Tannat leads; Cabernet-family and other permitted supporting grapes vary.
Blackberry, plum and savoury spice with a dry, substantial palate and firm tannins.
Tannat leads Madiran AOP, with permitted supporting red grapes adding to the blending possibilities. Its substantial tannins can support ageing, while vineyard and cellar decisions create a range from approachable fruit to firmer structure. The same broader landscape also produces Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh whites under a different appellation. Madiran itself is the red-wine identity.
