About Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley AVA

Where it grows

In central Washington, east of the Columbia River, within the larger Columbia Valley AVA.

The full AVA name is Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley. Its relatively northerly position and elevated vineyard sites contribute to a different growing season from warmer parts of the broad Columbia Valley. Riesling is a defining local grape, with other varieties also planted. The area’s lakes and flood-shaped landscape give the name geographical context. Freshness does not establish sweetness, so check the individual Riesling label for a dry, off-dry or sweeter expression.
