Valtellina Superiore offers Nebbiolo from steep Alpine terraces, combining floral detail, savoury complexity and a finely structured palate.
Cherry, rose and savoury spice with fresh acidity, fine tannins and a dry finish.
Valtellina Superiore DOCG is built around Nebbiolo, known locally as Chiavennasca. Terraced slopes and differing exposures give its named subzones, including Sassella, Grumello, Inferno, Valgella and Maroggia, useful geographical meaning. These are dry reds, distinct from the dried-grape Sforzato category. A subzone or vineyard statement helps bring the broad valley story closer, while producer and vintage influence the balance between perfume, freshness and tannin.
