Ribera del Duero wines follow the Duero River across the high plateau of Castilla y León in northern Spain. Tempranillo, locally called Tinto Fino or Tinta del País, anchors the region’s identity, from vivid young reds to structured bottles developed through oak and bottle ageing. Vineyard altitude, continental seasons and varied limestone, clay and alluvial settings help explain the differences between villages and estates. Look beyond the familiar reds to fresh rosados and white wines led by Albillo Mayor, a grape distinct from Albillo Real. Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva describe regulated ageing categories; they are useful clues alongside producer, vineyard and vintage. A wine without an ageing term can still be an ambitious expression of a particular site.
