Vinos de Madrid reveals Garnacha, local white grapes and varied vineyard country beyond the capital.
Grenache.
Red-fruit fragrance with herbal or floral nuances; extraction and ageing determine its weight.
Albillo Real.
A textured white with gentle fruit and a rounded palate; ageing choices vary.
Malvar.
A local white route with orchard fruit and a fresh, sometimes savoury character.
The four Vinos de Madrid subzones include warm inland sites and higher western vineyards. Garnacha offers a fragrant red route, while Malvar and Albillo Real are useful local white-grape discoveries. Tempranillo and other authorised varieties broaden the range. Compare the subzone, vineyard and producer’s approach rather than expecting one style or assuming every wine bottled in Madrid carries this DO.
