Genazzano brings a distinctive contrast between Malvasia whites and Ciliegiolo reds east of Rome.
Malvasia Bianca di Candia.
Floral and orchard-fruit notes with gentle freshness.
Ciliegiolo.
Juicy cherry and red berries with a dry, lightly savoury frame.
Genazzano DOC gives two grapes prominent roles: Malvasia Bianca di Candia in the whites and Ciliegiolo in the reds. That red identity distinguishes it from the neighbouring Cesanese-led denominations. The production area reaches beyond the town itself. Compare the two colours for a concise introduction to this less familiar corner of Lazio.
