Neusiedlersee-Hügelland is an older regional wine name that helps place bottles from the hills west of Lake Neusiedl.
Neusiedlersee-Hügelland belongs to an earlier chapter of Austria’s regional labelling. Today the same broad wine landscape is explored through Burgenland and more specific protected identities such as Leithaberg and Ruster Ausbruch. Their boundaries and style requirements should not be assumed identical to the older regional name. On a historical bottle, the vintage, grape and full origin statement help explain the wine. The name means a hilly lakeside wine area, rather than one uniform blend.
