Grapes
Alentejo brings a diverse southern Portuguese wine landscape together, from generous red blends to fresh whites and clay-vessel traditions.
Aragonez, also called Tempranillo, with Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet are representative partners; blends vary.
Plum, dark berries and herbs with a dry palate and rounded structure.
Antão Vaz, Arinto and Roupeiro, also called Síria, are representative white grapes; blends vary.
Citrus, orchard fruit and flowers with freshness and gentle breadth.
Alentejo PDO links eight distinct subregions rather than one continuous, uniform vineyard area. It differs from the broader Alentejano PGI, which offers a different production framework. Aragonez, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet and Castelão provide red-wine routes; Antão Vaz, Arinto and Roupeiro introduce the whites. Talha identifies a traditional clay-vessel approach for qualifying wines, not a requirement for every bottle. Read the subregion, grape blend and wine type to find a more precise expression within the wider Alentejo story.
