Priorat combines Garnatxa and Carinyena with steep Catalan vineyard landscapes, offering powerful reds and distinctive white-wine discoveries.
Garnatxa and Carinyena, or Grenache and Carignan, are central; other permitted partners vary.
Dark cherry, berries and herbs with a dry palate, freshness and firm structure.
Garnatxa Blanca and Macabeu are representative white grapes; individual blends vary.
Citrus, orchard fruit and herbs with a dry palate and layered texture.
Priorat DOQ, also expressed as DOCa in Spanish, is distinct from neighbouring Montsant DO and from the whole administrative Priorat district. Garnatxa and Carinyena anchor the red tradition, while Garnatxa Blanca and Macabeu introduce the whites. Llicorella slate is important, though not every site has identical soils. The council’s Els Noms de la Terra hierarchy adds village, place and classified-vineyard detail.
