Monastrell
Alicante offers Monastrell reds, aromatic Moscatel whites and the exceptional aged wine Fondillón.
Monastrell (Mourvèdre).
Dark berries, Mediterranean herbs and spice with a warm, structured palate.
Muscat of Alexandria.
Perfumed grape and citrus-blossom notes; dry and sweeter wine types differ.
Monastrell (Mourvèdre).
Long-aged red wine with dried fruit, nuts and savoury depth; unfortified.
Alicante DO combines different vineyard settings and wine traditions. Monastrell is a natural red-wine starting point, while Moscatel de Alejandría offers both white and sweet-wine routes. Fondillón is a distinct long-aged Monastrell wine made without fortification, not a generic name for Alicante reds. The full wine type explains whether a bottle is dry, sweet or traditionally aged.
