Allerona offers a small protected wine origin at Umbria’s western edge, linking three communities near the Orvieto landscape.
Allerona IGT covers these three communes rather than the whole of western Umbria. Its framework includes white, red and rosé wines, with additional types such as frizzante and passito under their own requirements. A named grape and wine type are therefore particularly useful when exploring a bottle. The IGT differs from neighbouring DOC identities, allowing a flexible expression of local vineyards without prescribing one universal blend or flavour.
