Carignano del Sulcis leads into southwestern Sardinia through characterful reds and a smaller rosé tradition.
Dark fruit, herbs and savoury spice with a substantial but variable tannic frame.
Berry fruit and freshness in a lighter expression of Carignano.
Carignano is the local name for Carignan, the grape at the heart of Carignano del Sulcis DOC. The area includes coastal and inland settings, so sandy old-vine sites do not describe every vineyard. Rosso, Riserva, Superiore, rosato and passito offer different interpretations. Compare the specific wine and producer rather than assuming all bottles are powerful or oak-aged.
