Histonium is the historical alternative to del Vastese, a wine name connecting older bottles with Vasto and southern Abruzzo.
Histonium and del Vastese named one IGT with a shared specification; Histonium did not identify a separate protected vineyard area. The registration was cancelled in 2026, with qualifying existing stocks allowed to sell through. The name can still offer an engaging link to Vasto’s wine heritage when it appears on an older bottle. Because the designation covered different colours and grapes, the wine’s own varietal and vintage details provide the most useful guide to what is inside.
