A wilder eastern Douro: broad skies, dry hills and deeply flavoured wines.
Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz.
Ripe dark fruit and spice, often with substantial structure. The best-balanced examples combine richness with a lively finish.
Rabigato, Viosinho and Gouveio.

Douro Superior is the warmest and driest of the three main subregions overall. Higher vineyards and varied exposures give producers ways to retain freshness in this dramatic inland landscape.
