Portalegre offers a higher, cooler Alentejo perspective, with old vineyard traditions around the Serra de São Mamede.
Grand Noir, Aragonez and Trincadeira are representative partners; local field blends and proportions vary.
Red and dark berries, flowers and herbs with freshness and a dry, structured palate.
Portalegre is a named subregion of Alentejo PDO, distinct from the whole administrative district. Higher sites and mountain influence create contrasts with the warmer southern plains. Old mixed vineyards and Grand Noir are notable parts of the local wine story, alongside other permitted red and white grapes. Conditions still vary by vineyard: the mountain’s summit height is not the altitude of every vine. Explore a producer’s site and blend to discover this upland Alentejo identity.
