Riesling.
Citrus and floral aromas with depth and structure. Site and producer shape the balance between dryness, richness and ageing potential.
Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris appear as separate varietal wines; some named crus also allow blends.
Gewurztraminer brings rose and spice; Pinot Gris offers pear and a smoky, textured richness. These are separate varietal expressions.
Sylvaner.
Orchard fruit, herbs and a fuller, more structured expression of Sylvaner.
Pinot Noir.
Cherry, berries and savoury detail, with structure for ageing. The named cru on the bottle identifies the authorised origin.
Riesling, Gewurztraminer or Pinot Gris can be used in separate selected-grape bottlings.
Concentrated sweet fruit, honey and spice from carefully selected grapes. This is a distinct sweet-wine expression, not the style of every Grand Cru.
The named cru matters as much as the grape. Most focus on Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Muscat; Zotzenberg also permits Sylvaner, while some sites allow blends. Pinot Noir Grand Cru is limited to specifically authorised crus, including Hengst, Kirchberg de Barr and Vorbourg.
