Walla Walla Valley brings Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah into a distinctive inland wine landscape shared by Washington and Oregon.
Blackcurrant, dark cherry and herbs with ripe fruit and firm tannins.
Dark berries, pepper and savoury notes with a dry, substantial palate.
Walla Walla Valley AVA crosses the state border, so its wines should not all be described as Washington-grown. Sites range from valley-floor settings to hills and other distinct soil environments. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot provide familiar entry points, while Syrah can add a particularly savoury direction. The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater is a smaller AVA on the Oregon side, rather than a name for the whole valley. Follow the vineyard when exploring those differences.
