Emilia-Romagna wines are made for discovery at the table, from refreshing Lambrusco and fragrant Malvasia to Sangiovese and textured Albana. In Emilia, the vineyards around Modena and Reggio Emilia reveal several Lambrusco grapes and styles, with dry, off-dry and sweeter expressions worth distinguishing. Piacenza adds Gutturnio’s Barbera–Croatina partnership and Ortrugo whites; Parma brings aromatic Malvasia. Around Bologna, Pignoletto connects still whites, gentle frizzante and fuller sparkling wines. Further east, Romagna explores Sangiovese, Albana and other local varieties across hills and coastal-facing districts. The region’s name is also used by a specific Pignoletto DOC, distinct from the wider geography. Read grape, origin, bubbles and sweetness together to find the right companion for the region’s celebrated food culture.
