The name Grave refers to the stony, gravel-rich landscape shaped by rivers. This is a different vineyard setting from the marl-and-sandstone hills farther east. Pinot Grigio and Friulano are useful white introductions, with Merlot and Refosco among the red choices. The appellation supports several wine styles, including sparkling categories; a still varietal label is the clearest starting point when comparing grapes.
