In Kakheti, near the northeastern slopes of the Gombori Range and the right-bank Alazani vineyard country.

Telavi is a wine town and the centre of a wider municipality, rather than a single protected appellation named Telavi. Cellars in and around the town introduce many Kakhetian grapes, qvevri traditions and more familiar steel- or oak-raised wines. Nearby protected origins give more precise vineyard identities. A Telavi winery can also make wines from elsewhere, so the bottle’s stated origin helps connect a tasting to the place where the grapes grew. Use the town as a starting point for exploring the surrounding villages.
